The Art Cat Jazz Club will return on Saturday, May 18. The Club is on the lower level of the Arts Center, recently decorated as a place to enjoy live music, have a beverage or two, meet new friends, and kick back.
Clubgoers will enjoy listening to Jordan Canner’s group, No Filter Jazz, playing jazz standards throughout the evening. This group performed at the Art Cat last March, and everyone agrees that they totally brought down the house.
The evening will serve as a fundraiser for the Arts Council, with tickets going at $35 a person in advance and $45 at the door. We strongly advise people to purchase tickets early, because we were SOLD OUT last time.
We have expanded the size of the club so that people will have more “elbow room” this time. We also will have room for a small dance floor. So if you want to get out of your chair and try some swing dancing, a Charleston, or even a Jitterbug or two, this is your chance!
Admission includes nonalcoholic beverages (mineral water, coffee, and tea) along with delicious snacks provided by Standing Stone Coffee Company. For those who desire something stronger, we will be selling wine, beer, and a special cocktail. Door prizes and a cash raffle will add to the festivities.
If the spirit of the speakeasy and the jazz age moves you, make sure to get your tickets soon. The Art Cat Jazz Club will be open from 7 to 10 p.m. To enter, walk down the Arts Center steps of Mifflin Street.
The Camera Club is an opportunity to make friends with other people interested in photography, have fun, and learn from each other. There are no dues. All ages and photo skill levels are welcome.
The Camera Club meets the fourth Thursday of the month January through October. The November and December meetings are set each year around Thanksgiving, the Art Walk, and Christmas. The Club meets at the Huntingdon County Arts Center, (formerly the 12th Street Methodist Church), corner of 12th & Mifflin St, Huntingdon at 7:00 pm. Meetings may include speakers with photo shows and interesting photography tips, group discussions about photo equipment, techniques, and/or composition.
The club is sponsored by the Huntingdon County Art Council.
If you have additional questions contact Larry Closz by e-mail at lclosz@yahoo.com or by home phone (814) 627-6908.
Tickets are available at the door, online, or in advance at the Huntingdon County Arts Center.

Join us on Sunday, June 2, at 2 p.m., for a great music concert by the Vienna Serenade.
Vienna Serenade, the newest musical ensemble in central Pennsylvania, consists of 11 professional musicians dedicated to performing the music of Old Vienna. They focus on the 19th-century European Romantic era and feature compositions by artists such as Johann Strauss Jr., Antonin Dvorak, and Emile Waldteufel.
Susan Kroeker, a professional flutist with a decades-long history in the music scene, formed the ensemble last year. She previously served as the executive director for the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra, founded and worked with the Community Chamber Artists, and founded and currently directs the Masterworks Student Orchestra of Pennsylvania.
As she said, “I have always enjoyed the music of Old Vienna, as it exemplifies the elegance and beauty of that time in history. It has been my dream for many years to start an ensemble such as Vienna Serenade to share this attractive music with classical music lovers in our area, both for concerts and for elegant ballroom dance settings. This type of music lifts the spirits and makes one want to get up and dance!”
The 11 musicians in Vienna Serenade perform on a variety of instruments, including flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, trumpet, two violins, viola, cello, percussion and piano. Together, they bring the music of old Vienna to life, right here in Huntingdon!
Tickets are $20 for general admission and $16 for Arts Council members and students (with ID).
Admission is free for children 12 and under.
Tickets can be purchased online, at the Huntingdon County Arts Center during normal business hours, and at the door.
Do you play an acoustic instrument?
Do you like to sing? Do you enjoy listening to traditional music?
Come join the acoustic music jam at the Huntingdon County Arts Center every first Monday of the month.
(NOTE: The December jam is moved to December 11.)
We’ll sing and play familiar songs and tunes and perhaps learn some new ones.
All acoustic instruments welcome (guitar, keyboard, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, squeezebox, flute, harmonica, autoharp . . .)
We’ll play in a variety of styles–old time, bluegrass, blues, world, traditional instrumental dance music, singer-songwriter, musicals–you get it, anything that strikes our fancy.
Jam led by Larry Mutti.
Join us for a fun day at the Huntingdon County Arts Council’s Summer Solstice Party on the lawn of the Gage Mansion.

Nonalcoholic beverages are included, although a cash bar will be available for wine and beer purchases.
Tickets are available for purchase at Thompson’s Candle, Three Twelve Kitchen & Cocktails, Standing Stone Coffee Company, and Boxer’s, in addition to the Arts Center.
